Like Syren Moon, this is an Imortas Legacy tale. The greatest gift of the Space Gods was the means to travel among the stars, instantly. Not by means of great interstellar vessels, but by simply stepping through a doorway from one world to another. Portals to other worlds were rare and precious things. These Gates could be exploited by those seeking wealth and those seeking freedom, and immeasurable opportunties awaited the lucky few who could access such gifts.
Among the Mineral Stars were found ways perhaps of recreating the inexplicable technology of the Imortas, where substances with similar properties to Gate frames could be mined. As they were usually to be found on harsh and forbidding worlds, only the fearless and foolhardy dared to seek such a prize, but greed and glory are formidable lures among a brave people.
Here is a tale of one such community on an outpost world that skirted the very edge of immeasurable wealth among the Mineral Stars. This is the story of Tam Sorrell, a teenage boy imbued with the mythos of pioneer adventure, who sought glory and fame and wealth, only to be thwarted by the conditions of poverty and neglect.
Then something happened on his impoverished little world that changed his life forever and he experienced more adventure, more danger than he could possibly have imagined. Amid such mineral wealth, Tam had failed to discover the greatest treasure of all, a treasure that had been right there before his very eyes. Would he be able to survive long enough to realise it?
